KATHERINE SLOAN: President, Massachusetts College of Art and Design

Dr. Katherine Sloan
Dr. Katherine Sloan has been President of Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston since September 1996.

She serves on the boards of numerous national and regional educational and cultural organizations, including the Presidents’ Board of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design and the Executive Board of Massachusetts Campus Compact. Dr. Sloan is a member on the New England Association’s Commission on Higher Education, the regional accrediting body for New England Colleges and Universities.  She is on the Executive Committee and is a team chair for the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.  She  is a board member of the Fenway Alliance and Cultural District, and is current Chair, and founding Chair, of the Boston Arts Academy Board.  She is past Chair of the Boston Higher Education Partnership, an alliance of public and private colleges and universities in greater Boston in support of the Boston Public Schools.  She is also a member and former Chair of Colleges of the Fenway, Inc., a board member of the ProArts Consortium, and a member of the Executive Committee of Massachusetts Academic and Scientific Community Organization, Inc. She has participated in numerous international meetings on arts education as an invited delegate and presenter.

Previous to her time at MassArt, Dr. Sloan served as President of both North Hennepin Community College and Greenfield Community College.  She has been published numerous times and has received many professional honors, including the Commonwealth Woman of the Year Award from Massachusetts Business and Professional Women and the Maud Morgan Award for Leadership in the Arts.  She holds degrees from Carnegie-Mellon University, Purdue University, and Mercyhurst College.
